ABOUT

Ricky Sweum is an award-wining musician, composer, educator, and music producer based in Colorado.  His performances have reached tens of millions of people worldwide, including Carnegie Hall, the Grammy Awards telecast, the Macy’s Day Parade, the Monterey Jazz Festival, and audiences in every U.S. state, Australia, Japan, South Korea, China, Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia, Mexico, and Canada.  

Ricky served a 21-year career performing with and leading Air Force Bands; he also lived in New York City for 10 years and toured with the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra and the “Sound of Music” featuring Marie Osmond.  

He is a P. Mauriat Saxophone Performing Artist.

Ricky has recorded ten solo albums, created multiple music NFT collections, appeared as a sideman on over 40 albums, and produced and engineered over 60 audio and/or video projects.  He is a co-founder of Ninjazz Records.

Currently, Ricky teaches music courses at Colorado College, the University of Arkansas at Monticello, and the University of Colorado (Colorado Springs).  Many of his students have become successful professional musicians and educators, often, winning full scholarships to their schools of choice.  

Ricky holds a Master of Music in Jazz Studies from the University of Arkansas at Monticello, and a Bachelor of Professional Studies in Music Production from Berklee College of Music where he graduated Summa Cum Laude.  He also attended William Paterson University and was a member of the BMI Jazz Composers Workshop.
